Suffering Issues to Ponder

  1. I think I know the answer, but why can’t dictators who deplete their nation’s wealth and/or resources somehow pilfer a lesser amount (still being extremely rich and powerful) and use their position to elevate the people’s living standards? Does the North Korean dictator truly need to use a golden toilet?
  2. Since the Lord is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, why do tragedies occur? (Does the Bible state that what transpires is only that which the Lord allows?)
  3. Do you find incomprehensible the vast amount of evil and suffering that infests the world? If so, what are you doing about it?
  4. After carefully contemplating, what would you label as the world’s five greatest problems?
  5. What is your biggest problem in life? Is it really so bad in comparison to the immense difficulties throughout the globe?
  6. Can you imagine the problems possibly solved and the good that could be accomplished if some media outlet regularly publicized the needs of suffering people (as verified by reputable agencies) so that motivated citizens could determine if they identify with such difficulties (which do not qualify for assistance from any established program) and wish to contribute somehow to their improvement? There would be no limit to what could be requested, and “red tape” would not prevent immediate amelioration. For example, someone might have an infirmity and need a handicapped ramp at home. A potential donor could actually consider providing the service or paying for it. Many requests might be relatively inexpensive but could be significantly life-altering. Do you get what I mean? The despair in our area would be exposed, and citizens would be provided with an easy opportunity to improve the public welfare. Evidence of citizen involvement is obvious whenever the media reports on an individual who is a victim of bad luck or some misfortune.
  7. Has anyone ever orchestrated a better “con job” than what Adolph Hitler performed on the German people?
  8. Do you have any idea how much worse things are in a nursing home than they normally are for a dependent loved one if a family does not plan for detailed daily visits and personal care for that resident?
  9. Do you have any idea how many people work at a job which they abhor and/or does not fulfill them?
  10. If ever, when, how, and to what extent would you be willing to contribute to reduce the suffering of others?
